Financial contributions help cover the operational costs of running Impact100 Greater Sacramento, allowing 100% of member contributions to go directly toward transformational grants. What to expect when serving on a focus group
What is the commitment to serve on a focus group?
Focus Groups will meet approximately three times as a full group and once or twice in a small-group setting. Each of these meetings will range from 1-2 hours. Focus Groups will also conduct 3-4 site visits for semi-finalists, which Readers can attend if they are interested. All Focus Group members must attend a grant review training. During grant review training, you will be able to review the meeting schedules for each Focus Group and select the group that best aligns with your interest and availability.
Time commitment outside of meetings
Time spent outside of meetings will vary depending on the number of applications assigned to your Focus Group, and how review responsibilities are distributed among volunteers. Each Reader receives 5-8 applications that will take about an hour to read and score as part of a Reading Team (approx. 4-8 hours). The Reading Team will meet as a small group to talk about their assigned applications. Site visits will be 90 minutes at the site plus travel time.
Members are expected to exhibit a strong attention to detail, deliver clear and constructive written feedback in reviews, and reliably meet firm deadlines.
Meeting window
Meetings will take place between mid-March and mid-August.
Proposed timeline
- March: First Focus Group meeting
- Late March – April: Application review and one small-group meeting to discuss assigned applications
- May: Second Focus Group meeting to discuss applications and select semi-finalists
- June-July: Site visits by small groups - not mandatory
- August: Final Focus Group meeting to review applications and site visit findings, and select the Focus Group Finalist(s)
